Stephenson's Rocketby p2jvrComment by vtruan: Hi John,
I've been gone for several weeks and was glad France lost. I also hate soccer, but that another story. So here is my belated review.
My 8 year old son is a railroad buff. So seeing the shot of the Rocket was great.
Review:
I really like the subject. Historic trains are wonderful to shoot. They just do not make things so beautiful any more.
The colors are right on. A bit more yellow added in select color might increase them and to add some more black would make the shot a wow for sure. The contrasts, sharpness, and dof are perfect.
Being that the Rocket is in side, you can't do anything with the back ground unless you blur it or burn it. But that's not important.
As a whole your Rocket shot is wonderful and I like it very much.
Best wishes and keep shooting the fun stuff.

There's light at the end................................by p2jvrComment by WaysOfSeeing: Apologies for the late comment. Blackcurrent and Keyboards certainly don't go well together. Congrats on now having the title of "Non prize dpc world cup sweepstake 2006 champion". I imagine you are extremely proud
This one I like, it looks like an image that has a lot of creative potential. Composition is pretty good and seems to work fine for this image. I love how the lights, tile grout, and floor markings lead and cut right through the photograph. The Graffiti really adds to this image.
I perhaps would have taken a different post editing route to yourself. I'd maybe try to clone out the individuals right at the end of the tunnel. At present they just seem to be nothing more than a distraction. In cloning them out, more emphasis would be placed upon the handbag lady and perhaps create more of a sense of isolation.
You might also want to consider giving your photograph a curves layer, and set the blend mode to soft light with an opacity of around 70% to give it more warmth, and to bring out slightly more detail in the tiling lines and grime on the walls. Maybe a play with dodging and burning could get those tiled walls and ceiling looking more murky and urban.
Overall, a very nice find and capture. |

Abu-Simbel.jpgby p2jvrComment by Riponlady: Great picture and the man adds the sense of size. Perhaps needs more contrast to really make the figures stand out. |

Feluccahs-at-Aswan.jpgby p2jvrComment by Riponlady: I love this because it brings back some wonderful memories. Great pic but the water looks non level! I am sure it is the perspective as the horizon is level but it is off putting! Needs a BIT MORE SHARPNESS ON THE BOAT. |
