Normally, I'd note that his face is in shadow. But, in this picture it works - almost as if you've substituted shadow for soft focus. This, combined with his expression creates a soft mood that his eyes and mouth hint is not the whole story. The depth of field assures your focus is where it should be, and there is nothing distracting in the background.

His face is slightly underexposed, maybe using a reflector or fill flash to brighten the face. Nice composition and colors.

Those look like wine barrels and he looks too grumpy to be a wine maker. Guess those aren't wine barrels though eh? Colors, focus and all that are good.

This was my favourite, though I couldn't vote. Tried to leave message to the effect of great understatement - the lonely unpretentious little chair, maybe left there to shell peas, peel potatoes, clean boots - the wash tub, or maybe not, doesn't matter, the scenery, the setting is grand but not spectacular. I dunno, so many entries were trying to make a statement, and this one wasn't.
