This is a great story picture. How could we improve it?

Mostly, I think the lighting is a bit too harsh and glarey. You need to soften the light a bit. But how? Shine through tissue paper. OR point the light away at something white and reflective like a piece of paper so it bounces back.

Maybe also arrange the cheese so it's more clearly cheese? Try a brick?

it looks like the door might be leaning against a wall with a light in between, i think you have a great idea, but, i would have liked to have seen the image where the door looked closed with the same light coming through the cracks and keyhole.
