Hi from the critique Club Jimmy.

Er ... this is really a 10D photograph? what happened to the presence, the detail, the power of that camera? Why such a small edit? It seems grainy, over-sharpened, lacking in dynamic range ... rashed, perchance?

There is, evidently, some detail here - the rings on the mini-dials' faces are pretty clear, and there is some depth - viz the light on the edge of the sweep hand, but it's a struggle to find those things.

I don't know whether your problems lie in post-processing, RAW file processing, or what. Don't know what lens you used, and to be honest it would be beyond me to tell you what would be a good choice. One definite improvement would, I think, be to shoot at more of an angle - use the SLR's facility with depth of field more.

But still the submitted size and quality are a mystery given the camera ...

Nice shot, might be a touch over-sharpened, maybe not. Nice framing. 8 Rob the Swash

C-2A Greyhound- I have no idea what that means but this is a fine capture and it is flight. Not too bad.

I like your choice of composition, and the B/W treatment. The large amounts of dust on the watch do detract, though. The image is also somewhat noisy, and seems possibly a bit oversharpened.

Not much going on in terms of lighting/strong tones. Doesn't capture the veiwer. Composition is too busy. My eye goes everywhere and can't settle.

Would like more contrast in the shot. This would help to make the shot really pop out. Making the blacks darker and the whites lighter would help to do this. I see some nice shadows that would be enhanced by doing this.

too washed out. you need to compress the tonal range here to bring out the blacks. otherwise, the composition is good and focus is sharp.

Greetings from the critique club Jimmy.

Well, I can second the comments about 107th place - but I guess I can see some reasons for it.

For me, this is excellently done - so difficult to light a plastic object without making it glare and look even more plastic than it is, and you've managed this very well. The focus is spot on, the cropping and framing is excellent too. You mention the blemishes yourself, but I think perhaps the subject matter was your biggest hurdle to scoring better. Firstly the plastic - were this as well shot and made of wood or metal I would guarantee you a whole extra point, and I would also think you've gone too far for most in the closeness of the framing - making too much of an abstract out of it, without the high-tech style that does so well here.

Great work though - really made me smile (I remember voting - it was the first image I saw).
