Your CC moment is at hand - hi Bob

I've been thinking about this shot a fair bit. There's a couple of things I like enormously about it: the effect of the 1 sec exposure on a couple of the trees, and the IR filter (it IS an IR filter, yes?).

Your two bugbears - the power lines and the horizon; certainly have no problem with the horizon - that amount of sky above the subject is, rather, essential I would say, to the success of this shot: had it been cropped as elsewhere suggested it owuld jsut be a confusing riot of patterns, and you'd lose the echo of the form of the castle in the forms of the trees. The power lines don't particularly affect things for me either - they're pretty well hidden, and I guess I just don't find them the distraction that others seem to.

So - technically, a very accomplished shot, really nothing to add on that front. It perhaps lacks that special inspirational moment - whatever that thing is that takes it out of the 6's and into the 7's. But that's hardly something that can just be picked out and inserted into your shots. Good luck in the future

I gave it a 6 Bob (I rarely give higher than a 7, and 8 or 9 only if exceptional - never 10, it's perfection after all). I loved the infrared thing you have going on there. You're right, the power lines are distracting. Maybe if you had shot it from further along the river(to the right, looking at the building). Maybe it would have obscured the lines and also shown more of the building. Just a thought.

Owen

I love the duotoning and the infrared, as well as the overall feel of the shot. I would like to have seen much more of the castle; and must admit that I find the power lines to be very distracting.
Addendum: What a shame that such potentially wonderful architecture is hidden like that! They should make it more accessible for photographers! LOL!

Good work... The gentle sweeping cirrus clouds add a nice element. What IR filter did you use?

There seems to be barely any contrast here... it all kind of fades into one. I also think you should have thought more about the rule of thirds when cropping, there seems to me to be a lot of extraneous sky. I would have cropped down to just slightly above the highest tree on the right side. I also don't care for the power lines (?) running through the photo. Looks like an interesting subject though... I would suggest trying again with different angles and views of "the castle"

That's a very nice shot particularly in terms of angle and distance. The bright highlights on the trees are perhaps a little too bright. Maybe a darker sepia toning would have helped?
