adorable child! It may have been more geared for the challenge if there were more of your abandoned building in this shot, this site is a learning experience so i hope you get alot of useful comments to help you see what most voters are looking for. technically a good effort.

nice first entry but I feel it is the wrong challenge. This is supposed to be abandoned buildings...again nice image though.

Congrats on your first entry, and welcome. I hope you enjoy it here and learn a lot. As you have probably already learned, the culture around what belongs in an entry and what does not is pretty strict and I find it almost impossible to tell in advance what kinds of choices will work universally and which will fail with greater or smaller portions of the audience. In this case, photo appears to be about Dayton. The abandoned building is a minor compostional element. Some competitors would say can't do much better than a 3, but I'm not one of them.

The lighting in the photo is beautiful and the color palette looks very good to me. Composition seems a little static. Keep entering, I can tell you will be a formidable competitor; I'll have much to learn from you. Best of Luck.

Tee heee. . . .I love your disclaimer "My First Entry". . . like, "Go easy on me, it's my first time" :) I love your picture! That precious little boy really makes this one of 498 abandoned buildings stand out. I'm sure you're hearing about it being small. . .it's something that a lot of first timers do, and it's something the voters usually get pretty picky about. But I personally don't think it detracts from your picture at all. I like it. It's very sharp, and the colors of the child's clothes contrast with the picture nicely! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

This doesn't seem to be about abandoned buildings at all...is it just me? Not a bad portrait, but not a good fit for the challenge in my mind.

A nice well posed portrait. This unfortunately doesn't bring home the subject matter of "Abandoned Building", for me a key part in the judging. I do think the lighting and colors are nice.

This is a portrait of a child and not a building...I don't get the "my first entry" in the title either...are you begging for mercy perhaps? This really bothers me.

Looks like a nicely dressed, clean young man against a wall. We really aren't seeing much of an abandoned building.
