Nice tree, but a confusing background. The very bright building at the left is especially distracting - could it have been croped? Or shot at a different angle?

Critique Club Review:

As you have already noted, your lack of a tripod hurt you in this one.

I'd have to agree with others, there doesn't appear to be a point of interest. The sharpest area is along the lower left, and then it appears to have edges that are bit overly defined in the green areas, almost over sharpening. (Could be optical illusion.)

Was this after a storm, or dry period? The flowers look like they are distressed, either from a storm or wilting from drought or age.

Along with a tripod, I would suggest plucking dead brown and dying blooms. Unless it is a mood piece on sorrow or death, flowers usually are accepted best when bright and healthy.

Oh, very nice! Very bold and powerful.

Focus, depth of field, exposure, lighting, brightness and contrast are all excellent!

You've taken a piece of chain, lying on the ground, and made art.

I particularly like the texture of the piece and the way the chain takes the eye on a journey through the picture. You can alomst feel the cold hardness of the chain, and the roughness of the rock, just sitting here.

I could easily see this hanging in a gallery.

So why didn't you do better in the voting? Borders are a gamble here, but this on might benefit from one. Other than that, I honestly have no idea. Your picture must have been near the back of the list, as the highest ranked photos had more views and total votes. I think that some get fatigued as they go through and not as selective when they vote later in the session.

it's rare to see a picture of a rat that looks so much like a portrait. nice effect.

Hello from the Critique Club:

I think the comments you received during the challenge sum up the strong points and weak points about your entry pretty well. The colors are well saturated and the clouds are very dramatic looking. But like two of the comments you received, I am also of the opinion that your score would have been higher if the clouds were in better focus. You have a good eye for composition and I look forward to seeing more of your images in future challenges.

I like your idea but I really can't see an area in the photo that is clearly in focus.
