Lets go see....JPGby Rachel34Comment by Imagineer: Nice scene, but this image is heavily compressed. Was the JPEG setting low? You may also want to try adjusting this shot using levels which will deepen the contrast and add gravitas. |

captive.JPGby Rachel34Comment by Imagineer: That's a lovely observation and I like the cross-frame composition too. Background is a little busy, but it does show context. Did you take any from different angles? Blue sky can be very effective againast a subject like this. |

Swirl.JPGby Rachel34Comment by Rachel34: Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback and the link to the tutorial...I have no idea what dodging and burning is but I've heard the term and anxious to find out...I will definitely do some cropping and will try boosting the contrast a bit...thanks again... |

Swirl.JPGby Rachel34Comment by srdanz: I would attempt to enhance the contrast by dodging highlights and burning your shadows. If you could darken some of the already dark areas, I think it would contribute to a more dramatic image.
Congratulations on another excellent photo.

ice flake 2.JPGby Rachel34Comment by srdanz: Rachel,
I would also suggest burning or even cloning a couple of bright spots that steal the attention. (The greenish one southwest from the flake, as well as the array of white ones with an orange one east of it). Excellent bokeh. |

ice flake 2.JPGby Rachel34Comment by Brad: Nice composition. Very unique.
A suggestion of a little crop difference to cut down on the amount of background above the ice structure. When scrolling the shot (1024x768 res), the image seemed to look a bit better with the ice above the centerline, cropping it so about 70 pixels would be dropped off the top.
Images don't have to be 640x480, and I often do 640x512 if it helps. |

Swirl.JPGby Rachel34Comment by Brad: Nice dof on this and well seen.
Not sure if a slight contrast boost would help or hurt the icy feel, but do suggest a slight different crop though, so the background on the right is lessened. My eyes keep wanting to look over there and takes away from the main subject in the ice. Message edited by author 2005-03-22 16:24:30. |

hooked on lines.JPGby Rachel34Comment by Ecce_Signum: Would have done well in the recent lines challenge. It makes me think of how many photo opportunities we all miss - great spot. A tad sharper would have been a cracker and your n&b series make a great set. |
