81??? No freakin' way? When I voted on this, I even almost made the comment that he didn't look elderly enough to be in this challenge!! Maybe you should've emphasized his few wrinkles or something. hahah. oh wait, this was basic. no, maybe you shouldn't have. :P
Compositionally, I like this crop. It shows enough of his face to really show the subject, but only show part of it seems to say that while we can see part of him, the photograph can't tell EVERYTHING about him.
Technically, you have nailed everything -- from focus and exposure to the bw conversion.
Also, while I don't know your father, it almost looks like his face and mouth are "stern" but his eyes are "smiling."
Great shot, and deserving of a ribbon.

Charlotte's Passionby hotpastaComment by MaryO: She looks like she just finished a temper tantrum with those bright red cheeks! Watery eyes are beautifully reflective. |

Charlotte's Passionby hotpastaComment by Rainbow-Coloured-Soul: Wow, she has very beautiful eyes! This one is gonna be a heartbreaker!
Good focus on the eyes and the tears, and her cheeks are so delicate and soft. This makes for a lovely portrait.
Well done. |

Charlotte's Passionby hotpastaComment by elru21: What beautiful green eyes, even with tears in them :) Your color is great. The image is about a stop underexposed. For this kind of a close up comp, I would leave a little more space under the chin and take off a little on the top to move the eyes higher in the frame (on the one third line instead of the middle line). A very nice image. 6 from me. |
