i don't really know what the center of attention is - it's busy, out of focus, and the hands are blurred. perhaps if the title told us what is the key element it would help bring this photo together.

Did you really find this or was it set up? Either way, this can be taken two ways to me, either the diary being exposed to others because it was lost (but travel diaries are usually pretty mudane) or it being exposed to the elements, much like it's owner might have been.

The shot is balanced very well to me, not centering the diary really works with this shot and at first I would say it's a tad dark but when it's raining it really is a bit dark isn't it? Very well done, good idea, good exposure overall. A 9 for you, may be back to bump it up before I'm done.

I like the concept, but I find the picture to be a tad dark. IMO, it would add to the interest if the journal was buried a bit (either by leaves or in ground partially) and if the shot was a bit closer so you could read some of the wording clearly.
