Peek a Boo!by mcraelComment by inspzil: Greetings from the Critique Club
By Inspzil
Composition - Good concept for Where's Waldo. I think the challenge on the whole produced some interesting photos. This is no exception. There are 2 things about this photo that I don't like, and all the rest I like. The first is your "vase," and the doily looks like a napkin. The second is the dominance of the shadows in the pic. The colors I think are great, the double exposure thing is cool, the framing is nice. The biggest thing that I can't get around are the darn shadows.
Technical - Well done. My wife has tried doing stuff with the multiple exposure feature on her 602 with not much success. This was well done and well thought out.
Overall - A little of the finishing touches added to this and you'd really have something. This is a well executed picture, just the setup might've been better served with some better props and less shadows. Good job Mcrael, keep up the good work. - Inspzil |

Feeling Helplessby mcraelComment by PTLParsons: I've been trying to figure out what it is about this photo that is bothering me and I think I finally figured it out. i'ts to closely cropped. This makes it look crammed in there. Pull back a little and put a litle more light one it and it's right on. I like the crystal sharpness of the focus - the details of the hand. Very good. Pulling back would add at least 3 points in my opinion. As is i can only give it a 6. |

Feeling Helplessby mcraelComment by Bullwinkle: A great idea ! Like the way you captured the hand wrinkles which are very much in keeping with the bound theme. The dark shadows heighten the mood. There is a surreal tint to the flesh tones that might be objectional to other folks. Getting in close and narrowing the visual elements to the basics is working here. Could I suggest a few things ? Frayed old rope instead of new rope might express more character ( although you did well with what you have ). I would also like to see more palm lines and wrinkles fighting against the rope tension. And less body hair as that element (for me) distracts from the texture of the rope and hands. I like the chunks of dark shadow pouring in from the edges and the accent of yellow frame, too. I wouln't mind a little more thumb inside the frame. A good level of creativity and thought is evident in this image. Reasonable technical standing as well. |

Feeling Helplessby mcraelComment by dsidwell: Great lighting and composition/cropping. The title might be heightened had you used less depth of field here and focused on the rope. The thumbnail and arm hairs are distracting me a tad. |

Feeling Helplessby mcraelComment by Lustre: Focus is great. The lighting is interesting - almost too harsh and shallow, but kind of adds to the mood you seem to be creating. The left corner of the rope is almost too bright though. |
