Evening Eyesby BaldurTComment by HBunch: Can't really see his eyes well at all. I wish we could. I like the fact that it's a horse behind a fence. That is very clear and definately fits the challenge. Focus is good on his mane. Lighting seems just a bit dark to me. The bright area is the part of his nose by the fence and that isn't the most interesting part of the pic. I like the blue background, nothing distracting there. Something that catches my eye and I find a bit odd is right where his nose meets the fence to the right *his left* see where the fence kind of follows his nose for a bit and it's not straight across? Is this a lighting thing, some kind of optical illusion? Overall a nice shot for the challenge, just wish lighting conditions were better. ~Heather~ |

Isla Contoyby BaldurTComment by Catherine_B: Pretty place, but I don't care for the overprocessed sky and water. The orangey-red just isn't working in my opinion. 5 |

Isla Contoyby BaldurTComment by jpochard: Beauty is a subjective thing, I know. In my scoring and comments I'm trying to score based on NOT whether or not I would think a particular subject beautiful, but on whether the photographer has succeeded in creating a beautiful photo. I look for the elements of color, lines, focus and dof interest, lighting, and a certain element of grace and lovlieness. I'm looking for a unique and creative appeal for the highest scorers. The description says to create a photo that makes the viewer think "that's beautiful", so it will undoubtedly be very subjective. (This is what I'm putting at the start of all of my comments, and I hope it is helpful.)
That being said, I think I might find this more appealing in person. The tones here seem really hot and arid. The large grouping of trees on the right rather dominate the photo and don't add a lot to the appeal. I would have liked something with more view of the water. For me, though, those orangish tones are the biggest drawback to thinking "beauty". |

Silhouette In Redby BaldurTComment by BaldurT: Thanks everyone for your comments. I knew I would receive comments on the partial silhouette, but I liked this shot and I thought it would be something a little different and was a slightly different take on your classic silhouette shot. Thanks again for the comments, good or bad. |
