This did not get the score it deserved. Not even close! From the POV of an equine specialist it's a nice picture. I love the motion blur and the yellow mixed in with all the black. Compositionally, I'd like to see a little more on the right side. I say, well done as an equine pic, too bad it wasn't more DPC freindly for you.

Very difficult, technically - those colours and motion against the black of the hide. Don't think you've quite pulled it off - simple compositionally the framing is a bit awkward, and there just isn't enough 'horse' about the image. Right hand of frame adds little, and makes the framing of the rest - well, uncomfortable.

The highpoints are definetly the side lighting coming in and the long shadows. While I like the pose of the head here and the lighting of the main, the rear end is a low point for me. The exposure is good, looks like you were trying to preserve the highlights here. That's good, just not enough highlights in the photo, most of the exposure is in the basement. A little contrast/brightness would help. However, I think the main thing here is the position of the horse, just a slight turn so it embraces the light a bit more and you would have had something magical. As is just an average rating from me. A terrific idea! Hope that helps.
