Love this idea...really needs some better lighting on this...the greys are just too overwhelming here.

the title, expression, and background of the picture seems to promote a sense of sadness. however, the lighting is soft and broad, almost boardering a high key (shadowless) effect. this soft lighting usually doesn't promote the sense of drama or sadness as well as harsh or high key lighting. an easy way to achieve a harsh lighting setup is to use a single, powerful, source of light (such as a street lamp or something at night)

skin looks a little too smooth for my taste, nice composition and texture on the background

Ok, so the girl has fabulous skin! I thought the shoulders and chest had been neat imaged within an inch of their life - but I think it's just really smooth skin now. 7

I feel that this would have been more effective for you if your model had been in darker clothes to connect with her surroundings. as it is, the white is overpowering the scene, taking the focus from the models face and eyes where it should be. a bit of some catchlights in her eyes would have brought some attention back to her face, but the appear to be lifeless. But I do like your overall theory here and your model is perfect for the scene.

Perhaps it's me, but this looks staged...she may have tracks on her cheeks, but where is the emotion in her look? To me, she seems to be just looking off at something, rather than looking sad or upset.

I would have liked this better if you would have zoomed in more on her face and less on the brick wall. The portrait is of her, not the wall.

I like the fact I get some emotion from your photo as opposed to the other "model" shots I've seen so far. Nice composition. Good luck in the challenge.
