If the leaf had been tilted to the left so that the light reached the furry surface better and perhaps a slightly closer crop I feel this would have been a better shot.

I may be way off here but the main sharp focus seems to be on the wood and not the leaf. This may be in part to the softness those types of leaves (milk weed?) gives off. You have a nice range of texture from the soft leaf to the sharp, hard wood and your positioning seems right on.
