Nice Hatby thomaspeopleComment by Melethia: Very good work with the exposure here to get detail in the tux and the hat against a black background, and still have the white tie not look blown. About the only "eh" is I don't like the cigar in his mouth. Maybe had he held it in his hand instead? |

In The Dog Houseby thomaspeopleComment by Melethia: Hey Walter - this definitely deserved a better score. I didn't vote in this challenge (I was in the other one) but I like this quite a bit! Fits the challenge and I really rather like the lush greens. |

Nice Hatby thomaspeopleComment by ellamay: Greetings from the CC. I am not sure why this shot did not do better, I really like the balck and white and the tones, the textures from his dreads to the 'shiny' tie. I think the black bckgrnd works really well here too. I think what may have added an 'aire of character' and maybe age it a bit is if the cigar was lit. (tho subject looks young to be smoking) I really think this is a great portrait. This guy is totally cool. Could almost be high fashion. I would be curious as to what you used for lighting. I really like the angle of the subject too.
Hopefully this is not insulting comment, but I have travelled to africa a lot and it is much harder to get a correct exposure on black/ dark skinned people. (also harder on very fair skinned folks) I think you did a great job with the exposure. Especially with the dark suit and white tie thrown in. |
