To me, this doesn't really scream "minimalism." Maybe if the same scene has a perfectly still water and blue skies, this would fit better (in my eyes).

I think that too much is in focus here for a shallow DOF challenge. The background is blurred, but there is not enough of it to get the effect.

You did good with the Shallow DoF. What needs improvement is the portrait posing. The only visible eye is in blur and the only sharp part of the shot is the hair covering the face which is taking up about 50% of the image. This does seem like a candid shot so you may not have been able to change the pose. However, the major portion of the shot is hair.
