With your careful use of DOF you managed to keep the crowd in focus. It appears that you were also able to make your subject stand out using selective desaturation. Too bad that wasn't in the challenge details.

The challenge asked for a person to be singled out in a crowd using shallow depth of field. There's not a whole lot of shallowness here

Pretty colors in the sunset. The beach almost looks like moon surface in that lighting.

The shadow is actually distracting and I think this would be improved without it. I also think the photo could use something else to add interest to the photo. BOL
