Shallow DOF I think is appropriate here however I feel that it is a little too shallow. Slightly more would give more definition to the glove in the background therefore improving the context of the image.

I fear many of our North American members will not recognise this as a bat. That's their problem...

Hi there,

Yep, nice girl, I agree, but not really DPC material I guess.
You know voters want clean, non distracting photo̢۪s and can̢۪t appreciate something that̢۪s different.
If you are going for points, then all the tips that are in the comments are true.
The guy in the bottom of the frame the guy with the backpack, they are distracting.
There is so much sunlight shining on the girls hair, and yes, it looks like a snapshot of a total stranger, because it is a snapshot of a total stranger.

That doesn̢۪t mean it̢۪s a bad photo, it only means it does not score very well on DPC
Some really good photo̢۪s got hammered here, and sometimes I don̢۪t understand why a particular photo won sometimes. (For instance look at the winner of this Challenge, People, I still don̢۪t understand why this photo won)

Never mind what others think, just love this photo yourself, and submit something else for a new challenge.

I hope this helps you in any way.

Keep up the good work.

Peter

(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) Well composed. The diagonal lines of hammer really draw the eye into the frame. This along with the strong use of rule of thirds makes a very powerful composition. The motion blur of the hammer adds a very strong point of interest and really makes the photo work.

(2) BACKGROUND The shallow DOF adds to the interest of the photo by isolating the important elements... the hand and the screw.

(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL Exposure is good. Composition is very strong.

(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL There is only one change that I might suggest. The white balance on your camera was not set for the proper color. Although this gives you a very interesting shot, I would be interested to see what it would look like with the proper white balance.

(5)MEETING THE CHALLENGE I might get nit picky and tell you that the item in question is not a tack, but you heard that from most of your commentors.

(6) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO Interesting shot that gets better the longer one looks at it. Thank you for sharing your vision.
