Yum. I like the bright colors on this. my only suggestion would be to move the cookie down a little so that the candle doesn't touch the top edge. karmat

A nice colorful photo... it would appeal to me as depicting childhood even without the candle, although it wouldn't have fit the name. And... don't use the name of the challenge in the title, no way, no part, no how!

Simple, good honest, bright childhood. I like the bright colors and smiley face, and the tilted candle flame keeps the eye moving in a circle, which emphasizes the ice cream bar.

power lines in a photo are always a detraction in my opinion. The focus could be better also. I'm not sure how this meets the challenge topic either. Was this taken at dawn of a new day? Is this a new stop sign? or is the focal point the NEW sign over the top of the stop sign? I just don't understand.......

Kind of looks like you took this out your car window as you were stopped at the new stop sign. I think it would have been a bit more visually appealing to take the photo head on, or from a bottom angle, looking up. Maybe could have been taken when the sun was a bit brighter, however, that may have cast too much reflection onto the sign and that would have been distracting. For being what looks like a spur of the moment photo, you caught the sign so it is almost exactly vertical. Good eye for that. If I would have taken it, we would have end up looking at it diagnally. Photo kind of makes me laugh. Definately depicts something new. Good luck with the challenge.

Large view of what could be a very good subject. Better framing necessary, more sign, less context.

i applaud you for finding a sign that read "new". i looked all over and couldnt find one. my suggestions are based on how i would have shot this. to me the street and all the background stuff is kind of distracting. i would have done an up close shot filling the view finder with the stop sign an d the orange sign. maybe shoot up towards the sky. you could have some nice colors with the red, orange and the blue of the sky. just my opinion.
