Lines Everywhere!by 4scoreComment by Jozi: good idea but the composition seems off and a bit skewed. would have been great to have your lines moved more to the left |

Lines Everywhere!by 4scoreComment by aznym: The light is nice but the DOF is making this shot a bit weak. If it had the same amount of sharpness in the shot I would have liked it better. Nothing wrong with shallow DOF, but I don't think it suits subject and angle used. |

Twist and Pullby 4scoreComment by jayrod: This is way after the challenge and you may not care to hear my thoughts, but I will offer. I gave this shot a 4. I really liked the idea of the shallow depth of field, but it just doesn't work in this shot. It seems like the DOF is on the fence here. If it were tighter or longer, it would work better. Think of an Oreo commercial, would they have this many crumbs around or flakes on the creamy cookie center? It just seems too contrived of a shot. It seems like it was set up without motive and done just because you got the good angle on the separatated Oreos. (But I know that's not true.) That being said, I really like the idea of the shot. I think that the lighting is pretty good (which probably is the most important part) but it just didn't jive with me. Not that my photos are better, but I wanted to try to help out. |

American River Canyonby 4scoreComment by srbrubaker: This photo may not win the competition: it is not the prettiest or the most dramatic, but it is one of the most remarkable in terms of skill. There are a lot of good photos in the competition that many competent photographers might take. This one took some imagination. Almost any treatment of this space and its photographic capture other than the one we see here would almost inevitably result in a mundane photo - one that might average about a 4. For example, the tree in the foreground perfectly frames the frosted or illuminated trees in the valley. The road, which is a potential disaster, weaves its way through the photo, almost out of site. And those little white wildflowers add interest to a blackened tree trunk - a trick which allows the photographer to spend a lot more conrast on other parts of the photo. |
