This is what the challenge was all about, and you have captured a nice effect. The problem I have with your picture is that it does not motivate me and that it is missing the "WOW" factor. Otherwise a good shot.

it was supposed to be a commentary on the destruction of nature by the creation of cities. the juxtaposition of the natural dead leaf on the man-made pavement.

i was happy with the way this shot came out, so i guess that's what matters. thanks to everyone who commented.

oh, and i like the overexposed part on the leaf. yeah.

you deserved a much higher score. i don't think people appreciated this photos goodness.
why does everybody think of people when they think of life. My impression is that the tree is trying to survive in a populated city with nowhere to grow.

I like this...but city life it isn't. At least not to me. Technically, it's an 8 to me. I like the texture of the asphalt against the smooth leaf. Colors are great too. I'd like to see a tad bit more dof so the blur wouldn't touch the top edge of the leaf. Final score...6.
