I've been agonising over what to do about this photograph. Because I know who 'The Photographer' is (in the picture) and I know who the the photographer is behind your camera. Here's the rub: if I hadn't known I would have given this photograph the most emphatic 10 I could click, without hesitation, as well as the immediate award of the Order of the Thumb with Garland, Diamonds and Ear-Shattering Fanfare. It's not ethical to score a photograph I know the author of, but nobody can prevent my awarding the Thumb. And so I thee endow, with immense pleasure. The 10 is, alas, merely implied.

I love above all other niches that corner of photography that is actually about photography. About celebrating he meaning and place of a photograph as a cultural icon. This is a wonderful visual monograph on The Photograph. Worth the proverbial thousand words.

On a WTF level, the fact that you have captured the light of the flash so perfectly is so improbable as to be miraculous. The photography Gods don't grant that sort of impossible serendipity to any but their most favoured disciples.

OK that's it. Time for the formalities. Kneel.... I dub thee Dame Thumb. Arise. Go forth and keep serving your craft so splendidly. Thank you!
