Morning fieldsby MelethiaComment by mpeters: Go square with your crop, crop the dirt and let the eye wander to the rightmost tree. I might even consider a reshoot that eliminates the tree on the left. I like how the middle tree is closer to the camera and gives real depth to your picture. Very harmonious photo. |

21.52 Barley and poppyby MelethiaComment by pineapple: Barley, grown for brewing in Europe. Quite often used in a symbolic way in paintings and photos. Suggest harvest festival, the gathering in, pastoral life, religion. And poppies in the field of life also suggest to me, as a European, Flanders Fields. Lydiaby MelethiaComment by mpeters: My .02... Her expression is very genuine, skin color looks very natural. Lack of catchlights would have hurt your score the most--hard to see her eye color and it robs her face of some life. Her smile does a nice job of making up for the missing catchlights but not quite enough. As others mentioned, a little more room around her face would may have been a better cropping choice-the hair helps frame the face and leaving a little room at the top would have been good. I find the missing chin less of a problem. Just my personal preference here>> I usually like the face in the RH third of the frame rather than on the LH side. I'd prefer just a touch of tilt in her head angle as well to move the eyes off of a horizontal plane.
I don't think it is a 'not very good' portrait, as it really seems to show off her personality, it just needs a couple of tweaks from a photographic standpoint. |

21.52 Barley and poppyby MelethiaComment by ivale28: This is a great shot - I didn't notice the poppies at first (in thumbnail looks like a bird to me). I like erikv's idea - selective desat could look really neat |

Bug!by MelethiaComment by Kelli: Awesome macro!! Wow, that bug is red. I love that he left that tip of brown on there, no out of date food for him, lol! |

Wine and rosesby MelethiaComment by nabusl: Really good perspective. The red flowers really stand out against the green and blue in the rest of your photo. |
