I feel that this photo fits the challenge pretty well. I do feel however that your DOF was a bit too narrow. I would have liked this better if the M&Ms in the fore ground had been in focus as well. The lighting and colors are enjoyable however.

Good idea and I like the DOF but the photo seems a bit grainy and I don't like the surface that they are set on.

your focal point is the only non-blurry part of the image. I don't know if you planned this or not, but it just doesn't look right.

Cool idea and shot, I love shots with short DOF but in this case I can´t help but wonder if the shot wouldn´t have worked better if the focus had been on the front 2 m&m´s, the yellow and red one instead of the ones that are 5 rows back. Just to be clear I like this shot, I hope you do well.

:: Hello from the Critique Club ::
............................................................

Well, this little fella isn't going to win many beauty contests. Never mind. In his own way he is beautiful, just not typically so. He's got cute eyes and an interesting nose, so we have something in common.

As far as a critique goes, much has been already said below, but I classify this as a snapshot, so my critique as based around a shot that has no forward planning, set-up, pre-conceived ideas, etc.

Good points:
> It's well composed with the subject filling the frame
> Subject is unusual
> You've captured an elusive(?) creature

Bad points:
> Flash has caused tonal imbalance
> Focus should be on eyes (stop down and you'd get more focal range, but low light would make this impractical with a moving subject)
> Colours are drab and uninteresting so it's not appealing to most, apart from 'educational' value

Hope this helps

Cheers
Jon

I actually wish you ahd a little further depth of field. Also I wish the closest M's to the cam were the ones you had focused on. Just small preferences. Nice shot.

The right corner is out of focus. Use hyperfocus to get it all sharp. Good photo otherwise
