I feel like the lighting is a bit "dull" on this. Everything appears a little gray and lifeless. I think if you had a littel better lighting with some diffusion (the reflection in front of the yoyo) this could be a great photo.

Very uninteresting, a closer or more create crop would really help.

I think this would work a little better with a tighter crop and perhaps a bit closer.

Thanks for all the comments!

stdavidson, shutterphunk, Im not sure why you are seeing those "bouys"(I think thats how you spell it), I photoshoped them out. Can't see them on my computer at home and also not on the one I am currently using, which is in a hotel. ???

I have a better version of this photo posted here: //www.deviantart.com/view/19373269/

Comments on that would be appreciated. It is the way I orrigonaly intended the picture to be. Its a pano and desaturated, also a bit darker and maybe sharper, I think it looks much better this way.

Kirsty mcn, its not the sea! Its a lake.

I did wait for five more mins. Unfortunately, being a sunrise the sun peeked over the mountains and blew out the photo. There was absolutely no cloud cover and the sun was very bright. I gave up, not sure what I could have done the capture the picture with the strong sun. I tried a polerizing filter, but failed.

Thanks again for all the comments. :)

Bold, artistic approach to the subject of darkness. I like your combination of form and line; light and dark that transcends "rules" in order to deliver an evocative image. Your freedom of thought in composition adds to this as one of my top ten favorites from this week.

i'm not sure what i like about this...it just works. the use of thirds clearly helps.
The only thing i don't like so much is how the light on the sea on the left doesnt fade out like that on the right.

Comment by Artifacts:
The strength of this composition is the thin white reflection below the hills. Simplicity in an image is a virtue. Decent silhouette.

Because of it's simplicity it is paramount that the image is technically perfect. It is good but could be a little better. It would be best if you could make the tiny trees on the horizon absolutely razor sharp. They are a little soft in the composition as it sits.

Try to do something with the sky to add some color. A deeper cobalt blue might be a good choice.

There are three rounded objects in the foreground. They are probably pilings in a pier but the viewer cannot really tell. Because they cannot tell what they are they are more distracting to the image then enhancing. If they could be blacked out of the picture or the picture taken from a differnt place it might be a little better.

Compositionally it might make the image a little more interesting if the dip between the hills were positioned according to the rule of thirds rather than at the center of the frame.
