The images though, are so powerful and cohesive, that they just take over my memory after completion of the essay.

It's looking like a board game in which we can move the 4 players around and get different scenarios. There seem to be a 5th character, certainly a menacing element.

Well, I'll be... I'd love to offer a warm, witty, and insightful essay, but I'll just stick with "this makes me smile". I will add, however, that the prickly bit off to the right is somehow a stern message, even sterner than that of your title, making sure that we all understand the significance of this marvelous beast.
