I gave this a "6"

That number means different things to different people. A picture that does nothing for me gets a 3, even if it is the sharpest, rules of thirdest image in the world. If it is different in some way or has some feeling to it, then it goes to 4. To get a 5, I have to feel like the photo is doing at least something interesting. That brings us to 6. 6 means it's a good photo, just not a 7. 7s are for photos that really come together for me. They are beautiful, they move me, they are subversive, they tell a story, or all of the above.

So, this was a 6. The lighting is gorgeous. It came close to 7hood, and maybe if I were in a different mood at the moment it would have gotten a 7, but I felt that the photo was an exercise. And yes, a highly successful exercise but still an exercise. To put it metaphorically, it's a beautiful cage but there's nothing in it. A lot of it has to do with composition. Your composition is too stable. It says, "ok, here I am!" I want it to say more, I want it to stutter a bit or exclaim.

Not really sure about the composition here, the white ball is the one that draws my attention yet it is places behind on of the red balls. I would have probably used selective desat on the grass. Just keeping the red of the balls would have given a really striking effect here. The grass is patchy and partly dead, and also distracting by the uneven textures
