That's quite touching, the simplicity of a beautiful story.
Perspective planes work great here in separating the characters while linking them.
I couldn't image a more effective angle than this.

Personally, I could never balance my family and photography on outings. Try as I might, I would get distracted and do one of two things: I would linger too long while everyone else wanted/needed to move on or I would run away and leave them all behind wondering where I went! ADHD + family outings = me in doghouse! good luck!
