Looking up to the skiesby xertionComment by smellyfish1002: No doubt about it, that's perspective! Your focus, DOF, lighting is all great. The depth of blue in the sky is really outstanding, and I like the clouds in the corner, although it would have been nicer if they were whiter to give more contrast. Adjusting them to white would have blown elements in the tower, though. I realize it's against the rules for this contest, but it would be interesting to see this with more contrast in the details of the tower itself. Maybe the burn tool in Photoshop (or similar method in another program) would bring out the details in the tower walls. Nice job on this shot and good luck in the challenge! |

Looking up to the skiesby xertionComment by lisae: This photo is dramatic and effective but a little monotonous. The centred composition is very formal, and there isn't much about the tower that captures my interest. The little puff of cloud in the top left is a great touch though. |

The old "flower cliché"by xertionComment by jmsetzler: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Xertion...
Flowers made a great choice for the Cliche challenge... 'Cliche' is such a dirty word.. lol.. I love flower photos and I make a few myself. I plan to make a lot more in the spring since I have a renewed interest in that particular subject.
Floating these flower blossoms in the pool was a great idea... I have seen it done before so that could possibly add to the cliche concept. Compositionally, I think this photo could have more impact if the flowers were in a diagonal orientation with each other and possibly be set against a darker background. A darker environment around the flowers would create a lot of extra contrast to make the color of the blossoms really hit hard. Having them a little closer together could also help a bit... I don't see any real advantage of having each of them clipped by the sides of the frame...
Keep up the good work :)

Looking up to the skiesby xertionComment by kosmikkreeper: A couple of building shots this week but I like this one. It's well cropped and centered (which works well for this pic). The cloud adds a lot to the pic breaking the otherwise mundane symetry. Crisp focus and DOF. 8 |
