Great Blue Heronby eaglebeckComment by Nuzzer: Greetings from the Critique Club.
First impressions are that this shot is a little small and poorly processed.
Technically it is the artifacts around the bird that stand out. Yo_Spiff has covered that off in his comment so I won't repeat that here.
Artistically this shot does not offer DPC what it likes. The Heron is just standing in the water, not even looking at us. Birds are a tough subject at DPC and to score well they need something wow. This shot does not have that wow, even if it weren't for the technical issues.
In summary it's an ok shot but that's it.
Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

U.S. Air Force Memoriesby eaglebeckComment by Yo_Spiff: Cool. When I entered the AF, the F-105's were still in service with the ANG. They were always an impressive sight to watch take off. Then they got replaced with Phantoms. A fine aircraft, but it never captured my attention like the Thud did. |

Great Blue Heronby eaglebeckComment by Yo_Spiff: There seem to be a lot of compression artifacts showing in this image. They are most pronounced around the bird's head, but visible throughout the image. Your file size of 138k is reasonable for the image, so I think perhaps during working on this, you may have saved it as a JPEG and then reopened it, perhaps several times. Saving and reopening a JPG repeatedly compounds compression artifacts. A good workflow is to save your file in either a TIFF or your image editors native format, until you are ready to post the final product. That way you don't lose any detail. |

Candlestick Telephoneby eaglebeckComment by Yo_Spiff: Great subject, good light, slightly better DOF is the only thing I think it really needs. Unfortunately, I think that aspect is probably killing this in voting. |
