Maybe there's something I'm not seeing... WHAT is heroic about a child and a toddler? I don't see any clues here. snow? water? rocks? Afraid I don't see anything indicating these are heros.

Would have used differnet cropping or positioning of the kids, since the kids are the freinds
but your eyes get drawn to the water.

First thing I noticed was the crooked horizon. It would have been better to crop out that completely. Additionally the girls' legs are cropped out, which seems odd considering there is a lot of negative space around them. Crouching down to that you were on their level and getting either a closer up view of the girls or else getting in their entire bodies would have helped.

your horizon is tilted might want to correct that and maybe get all you subjects in frame for you have cut off their legs. good photograph.

might have suggested playing up the fact that the sign looks very facelike, and avoid the repetition of the sign text in the image title.
