Ack! Sorry to hear about your woes Art, those devices are horrible but I guess there is some value in them if that happens to the shoplifters - we all pay a lot more for our goods because of thieves, however it's not nice to read about someone being affected by this that has genuinely purchased the item.

great close-up bummer of a story . .
gotta say tho it does make sense doing the dye and magnetic thing to stop ppl stealing .. there might have been a temp glitch that stopped the alarm going off when you walked out .. i'd be going back with a gun visible, but not actually pointed at them, to say they have to refund my money or supply another garment .. the fact that you tampered with the device is irrelevant because they should have taken it off .. there's no way i'd take no as an answer ..
its happened to me too and i've ruined a garment trying to remove the magnetic thingo .. lucky me coz there was no dye involved, it just got torn .. :)
