I really like the framing position on this photo. The detail of the blue heron is great, I like that you can see the individual feathers at the bottom of the neck. The sharpness of the beak and eye is very good. I really like the DOF that you used to isolate the Heron.

The lilly pads really give a good texture feeling going back that is also interesting and inviting, I think this rally adds a depth to the photo.

Lovely shot and great to see him as he grows.

One of my kids has a birthday on Christmas Eve, so we give them an 'official summer birthday' and a smaller do on the 24th - always tricky knowing what to do when they're birthday is so close to Christmas :- )
