The deers did exactly what they are supposed to do in real life: blend with the background. They are barely perceptible because it's brown on brown. And they're too small. You might have waited for them to be in a more compact constellation, which would have allowed a tighter crop and thus, larger animals. A more narrow DOF might have helped as well.
