this would have been much stronger (IMHO) if you'd shot it in portrait orientation and not cut off the flame ...

Nice! I thought about doing this shot (though not with this bottle!) Very well done. Curious how you did the ignition - that's what I couldn't figure out.

Very cool idea. I think I would have made it a vertical crop though.

There are too many distractions in the photo. The lines of his shirt, the coffee-mate and sugar, the dark shadow under his arm, his tie etc. If you recomposed and drew in tighter to the coffee, leaving enough detail to show there's a guy wearing a tie, you could bring out a stronger message and in turn, make a stronger photo.

With some more post-processing, this could have been a hit: a channel mixer conversion to B&W for more contrast and punch in the background, a bit of saturation and a contrast bump on the geese, etc. An angle with the birds facing somewhat towards the camera would have helped as well, though I don't know if this was possible at the time :). Maybe also a lower point of view, from their eye level, and crop out the last bird, that cut in half anyway?

Now this is cute and original. LoL...this is going into my favorites. You have captured the perfect 'feel'. I like the sharpened-look as well because I think it fits with the theme of your image.
