I know those hills are glorious but I think this would go from a 5 to at least a 7 if you narrowed the depth of field to let the background receed. Nice colors. I like the expression, too.

I'm not sure what your camera settings were, but it looks like you had a very high ISO when you shot this. The noise in the dark areas and especially on the dog is very distracting from the rest of the image.

This is a very happy picture as such, e.g. we feel the joy in the kid's face as he is running.
However, I don't connect this picture very much with sports - more with playfulness.
Other than that it's quite frustrating that the right foot is missing in the picture - a wider view would probably have been more optimal here - and to have such an overexposed sky.
I would probably have used slight Shadow/highlight in Photoshop to bring out the detail in the kid's pants.
Sharpening is perhaps a bit too agressive as can especially be seen in the kid's pants.
I also think this picture would have been much nicer in black and white.

Try using flash when taking pictures out side. i.e. think you would get more detail on the dogs fur. pjus.
