it took me a minute to like this shot. Then I noticed the angles of the wings, how it could almost be one, long continuous shot of the same bird at different moments in flight (of course it isn't, but there's a magical quality to the shot). They are all random birds, but they are all the same???

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: A brave choice for the Free Study, but you were right to submit it - this is an image that is more than the sum of its parts. The quality of the light, the subtle contrast of the clouds, the wonderful coloration, the distribution of the birds, the variations in their shape - all work really well.

Critical stuff: Nothing really.

Overall: This shouldn't be an engaging shot, but because of the photographic choices that you have made, it transcends expectations.
