Time has run out!by camelotnorthComment by inspzil: Greetings from the Critique Club

Composition - Great subject for this photo. I wish I had one of these I might have entered. The lighting is pretty good, but I don't like the reflections of the lights on the hourglass. I don't know if there is anything that could be done about that though. The only thing that might have worked is lighting it more from above but that would dramatically effect how the subject was lit. Good framing with this photo too. I like that this is simple and doesn't have anything else in the frame trying to give too much of a message instead of concentrating on this great subject.
Technical - Really its pretty well taken. I don't see any major flaws with it. Focus and DOF look good and its adequately lit and well framed. Not much to speak of in terms of processing either.
Overall - Nice subject and pretty well taken. Not bad picture, but nothing really dramatic or dynamic about it. I think if you could find a way to soften it up, it would be much better. Ever tried shooting it thru cheesecloth? or a thin scarf? That might help to soften it up a little. Something to try if you never have. Well hope this could be a little bit of help to you. Good luck in future challenges. - Inspzil |

Time has run out!by camelotnorthComment by dsidwell: I love the lighting and the colors are appropriate to set off the brass and colored glass. Just a tad out of focus; perhaps a greater DOF would help. Great work here. |

Time has run out!by camelotnorthComment by ss: I shall admit that studio setups often do not appeal to me as much as real-life photos. But when there is a studio setup, you get more critical about details and the reflections in the hourglass bother me, I must say. As soon as you see this photo you try to figure out the reflections and the beuty of the "big picture" is kind of lost. Do not take me too seriously though, I'm rating this at 7 ;) |
