Solitary Sandhillby jemisonComment by Citadel: Having the crane more or less centered makes the image rather static and takes away a lot of the feeling of movement. While you may not have been able to compose the shot perfectly at the time, cropping in post could change the position of the bird. |

En Garde!by jemisonComment by GrayGhost: This is an under-rated photo - it's striking, with great texture, light pouring out of the mask. I think that it would be even better with a bent foil touching the mask, with the title "Touche'!" This would probably reduce the number of low votes and people that didn't get it, and the extra element would tell a story. |

Looking at the voting histogram, the distribution of votes looks pretty normal, except for the spike of eight 1's. I'm guessing that some of these people simply didn't recognize that this is a photo of fencing headgear. It's a very abstract looking photo, and without the title, I'm pretty sure I never would have realized it was headwear. Looks more like a close-up of a microphone to me. Even with the help of the title, I'm sure some people didn't make the connection, especially since the average voter probably spends only a few seconds looking at each photo.
It's a very good photo, though. I really like it as an abstract. I like the light, composition, and texture of the metal. |

En Garde!by jemisonComment by Bear_Music: Lovely shot! I can understand why many did not relate to it, however. Had you set this up so there was a neck showing, I bet you'd have scored in the mid-6's. But I think you made a striking image and I like it a lot. |
