While nicely detailed, the blank background doesn't quite work as well as it should have give the dark nature of the subject. Technically competant, it fails to offer the viewer anything to examine closer and elicit some interest. A little added object or something similar to give the viewer some context would have been a plus. Not a complete or artistic success, it is a competant image and a good entry into the challenge.
