Another very well composed shot, well framed and focused, love the blur on the tombstone, so as to make the boy and his thoughts and sadness show out more
thank you for sharing.

Beautifully done, sensitive picture but does it really say desolation. It isn't clear what the relationship of the boy to the deceased person is. He may be visiting a grave of a relative who died years ago and is saying a prayer. The viewer just doesn't know.

I defintitely get the emotive factor you're going for here. Good processing. A sound composition. But here are my thoughts on this kind of image, for what it's worth :-) I often see shots of this nature, and obviously, some of them work well, others not so well for various reasons. When I see a shot like this, it obviously invokes emotion. But also, you know it's one of 2 things, either a set-up shot, or a true candid. I have nothing against either, but you have to consider what it takes to get the full impact from the image. In this case, the viewer has a very close, intimate point of view. I think to some folks, if even subconsciounsly it could give a feeling of discomfort. Because of knowing it is either set up or candid, being so close and right there, the viewer sees that probably, it is set up, and takes some impact away. And if a true candid, it would seem almost 'offensively' intrusive on a very private, intimate moment. Shots like this that seem to work well 'for me', there is at least a little bit of 'comfortable' distance between viewer and the scene. The viewer doesn't feel intrusive, but yet is still witness to a very emotive occasion, and wether it is set up or not becomes more hazy and unimportant. Anyways, that is just my opinion on the subject, place what value you like on it :-) I'm certainly not saying this is a bad photo by any means, it is just that I happen to like emotive shots, I have seen many 'mourning, gravesite visit' images that I like, and these are my thought on what makes for a strong presentation of the concept. Oh, and if you're wondering, I do see this as fitting the challenge :-)

Sniffle sniffle. The photo is so sad. It makes my heart feel desolate even thinking about a child's loss like that! Nice photo.

I like it overall. The b/w is great, the composition is good, but, and forgive me if untrue, it looks a tad posed in my opinion, which detracts for me.
