Here the selective desat works better I think, but I don't like those haloes of color around the petals.
I don't know how you did the desaturation process, but try doing it while using 2 layers. The top one should be the b&w, and the bottom should remain in colors. Then use a very hard brash tool to delete from the top layer all the parts you want to see in colors.
This might prevent those weird haloes.

i think this is a beautiful fower shot.
I love the DOF, the nice little details and even the frame works good for me.
but personally, I don't think the selective desat. fits here.
Somehow, I think that light green background would be better. it would give this one a warmer feel, while the b&w background makes it completely cold.
Or maybe it's just me...

Can't see anywhere in the photo that is in focus. The eyes at least should be razor sharp. Nice shot, although I'd have prefered a less square crop. Lighting is not bad, although the onboard flash has cast an unappealing shadow under the chin. Try bouncing an offboard flash next time.

Never show that picture to future baby-sitters... Man that's an evil look. Lights are weird, it looks like the girl's been cut/paste onto another backdrop. The focus is too soft.

I adore the look on her face here.. and the angle is pure genius. Focus could be tighter, but color and lighting are great.
