A great pose/angle and composition. Yes, your new flash with bounce (and diffuse) will make a huge difference in the shadow and contrast.

One suggestion on this type of a photo is to remember how close to the wall the couple is and to use a much smaller DOF to try and blur as much of the background as you can. (not always possible, but PS can give you some control over that as well.)

I agree with the others. Great capture of the moment and that is what wedding photography is all about. Another thing you could do to minimize the shadow is to get a flash bracket. Stroboframe makes a few nice ones and you could find one for cheap on ebay. I have the stroboframe camera flip bracket and absolutely love it.

great job capturing the moment, stephanie. you can use ps to clean up the shadow. what you'll want to do for the future is practice bouncing the flash (the 580 has an incredible swivel). you might also consider getting a flash sphere (see here). have fun!

I think other than the shadow that you mentioned in your post, that this is a nice wedding shot. The lighting on the couple is good, the focus crisp, and you captured a great moment.
