My intent was to have the cartridge and in particular the stylus tip in perfect focus with some of the surrounding groves.

Lighting was a problem. All I had was a couple of halogens on the ceiling and a friend holding a flashlight.

I tried to hand hold the shot but could not get the focus right. I finally used a tripod but it was very difficult to position and I didn't want to move the turntable and have to go through the setup again.

I did want a shallow depth of field but a bit stronger light would have allowed me to stop down a bit and make the back of the tone arm a bit more distinct.

This was my first contest attempt after having the camera for 2 days. I appreciate all of your comments.

I had time to go back through the photos and upped your score. I hesitate to make recommendations since I'm obviously not a ribbon winner, but I would have liked it better if it had been cropped more at the top and right -- putting the "benz micro" right on the third crosshairs.
