Khmer Contemplationby Mark of SRQComment by espy2: I'm not much for receiving or giving comments, but since Candids are
near and dear to my heart, I have decided to give comment on every entry
in this challenge.
This is ok for me. Since children are so easy to get candids of, I am a little surprised to see this so out of focus, but it is nice. Just a bit too easy for my liking. I like to see more of people doing extra ordinary things, more interest, something that sparks the mind a bit more. To me this is just a bit too ordinary. It's a 3 for me. |

Phuket Islandby Mark of SRQComment by taterbug: This is a pretty cool shot. Good color management. I like your use of 'threes' in the composition. The three 'bays', and how they form a nice vertical across the photo. Nice job :-) |

Street Photography: A Fading Art?by Mark of SRQComment by Maverick: imho, this needs more emotion. The angle is fairly basic, but would be ok if the composition was stronger. The man in the turban is the main subject here (correct?). While it can be important to include a person's environment, I think there are too many items in this shot (the taxi, the woman on the right). Shallower depth of field might help isolate the central figure as well. |

Street Photography: A Fading Art?by Mark of SRQComment by wavelength: Street art/photography is not dead or fading. Take a look at pawdrix's portfolio, or www.chromasia.com (click back through the entire last year, it's worth it), Or Librodo's portfolio.
The problem with this photo is that you abandoned all thought of composition. I have no idea if you had problems with the man and getting his photo. But if he could have been (or was) a willing subject, I think you could have done much more with this. Maybe give him some money to pose or something.
Anyways, use thirds, symmetry, negative space, or whatever, but this haphazard arrangement takes away from the focal point (the man IMO). I can see many possibilities, but the most obvious to me is stand directly in front of him, him to the left side of the frame, and his table beside him. |
