thanks for the comments everyone, well I saw this differently than most people it appears. obviously the lamp is a light source but it has no effect on the lighting on the subject. the challenge said light the subject with a single light source, which is what I did...so hopefully that explains things. I personally liked the lamp in the picture as a photographic element, but to those who saw it distracting (and not as making it not fit the challenge) thank you for the input.

Very nice, but the lamp in the background kinda ruins it for me. I can clearly see some light coming from the front, and I also think a part of the mic on the left couldve been cropped shorter. Altogether though, its a nice shot!

Use a single, artificial light source to dramatically light the subject of your choice.
