At the Blue Lagoonby GautiComment by Bear_Music: At least this time I know it's NOT selectively desaturated. Pity you couldn't remove the little sign, it's a real eye'trap, but a very nice image... |

Roman Emperor (with cold) (#0068)by GautiComment by srbrubaker: Very Funny! If I took this shot and had a lot of time to kill, I'd consider trying to isolate the foreground from the background using photoshop. Not sure what to try, maybe make a layer with a steep 'Curves' and select light pixels ( background ) . Then try blurring and/or lightening the background so the emperor is a little more clearly distinguished from his domain. Clever shot. |

Hats off to the Great Skuaby GautiComment by Gauti: See also from same spot on a different day, with a different guide - I was with father (Siggi), but Jóhann with son (Einar), but the same bird doing the same thing. Nasty thing, but photogenic :)

Moon IIIby GautiComment by Gauti: This is shot through a telescope, or rather, spotting scope. Leica APO-Televid 77 to be exact, with a special camera adapter, which turns this into a 800mm F/10.4 manual focus telephoto lens. Focus is difficult, esp high precision focus, because the viewfinder on the 10D is so small and dim and no man.focus help (split screen). Since this is also a BIG thing and this is a 45° scope (angled scope) the whole assembly is highly sensitive to vibrations and movement. But when, finally and with a lot of luck, it focus dead on with no vibrations you get so crystal clear and sharp images that you forget all the problems.
This particular shot was from a series of 20-30 shots, and was one of a handful that came clear.
Shooting the moon is tricky :) I know there are some formulas that let you calculate the exposure, but I prefer to shoot and then check on the LCD and adjust and shoot some more. I do exposure bracketing and focus bracketing.
