It was actually toward the end of Egypt's great civilization. Ironically, these monuments, which celebrate the apex of Egyption civilization are sometimes believed to be the direct cause of their decline. Too many resources went into the building of the monuments, not enough into the building of the infrastructure and culture. In this sense the photo provides an interesting parallel with our time.

OOPs apologies. I did not mean to lecture an Egyption on his own culture and history. I frequently imagine what will be the most durable monuments to man's existence on this planet fifty thousand years after he is gone. And the only item I'm pretty sure will remain is the pyramid. Anyway, thanks for taking a photo which made me think.

Interesting subject. The photo could use some curves applied to give the sky more impact (darker blue). A little more contrast would also give the pyramid some impact with shadows a bit darker. Neat place to visit it looks like.

Little known historical fact: in the beginning the Egyptians used the pyramids as ramps for their compact cars. The sphinx originally was the entrance to an underground parking garage.
