Torontoby Joey LawrenceComment by brink: I like it. Great picture, love that rusty tone you've got there. Tells a story that is never often to heard |

16!??? I knew you were young, but I always figure those profile ages donĂ¢€™t update automatically, so I put you at 19 or so...
Remember the little folks that encouraged you, and supported your endeavors, 20 years from now when Steven Spielberg is presenting the lifetime achievement award to it's youngest recipient ever at the 2026 Oscars!
Keep up the good work, perhaps a documentary on "Homelessness - The forgotten Masses" will be your first to receive critical acclaim.

Torontoby Joey LawrenceComment by Pedro: Joey wasn't wearing any pants at the time either, so i photoshopped his jeans into the photo.
In all seriousness I think people could learn some lessons spending some time with Joe. Photographically he's got a great eye for the interesting, and has no reservations asking anyone for a photo if he sees the op. He hasn't told you that he was using a borrowed D70 for this shoot, so presumably he has very little experience with the nuances of the dSLR, yet the pics turned out like this. awesome.
Above that though, there are life lessons to learn from him as well. He treated absolutely everyone (except me of course) with respect, from the homeless to his parents. How refreshing to see someone sit among a group like this, talk to them as humans, offer some money for their time, and then try to represent them as they are - humans, albeit less fortunate than us. There was even one crusty old fella who didn't want his picture taken because he was afraid "it'd be all over the internet like last time" (I don't think his cardboard box has net access, so i'm not sure how he knew). Joe explained why he was taking the pics, but the guy wouldn't budge. he tried to give the money back, but Joe said no thanks, wished him well, and we were on our way.
'twas a great afternoon.
And I flat out refuse to say "He's great for a 16 year old!". I consider that an insult. He's great for any age.

Torontoby Joey LawrenceComment by Stagolee: This is fantastic. You could make a great photo study of local youth and their culture with some of the stuff you are presenting here.
Some of the comments from others see sadness and shock but they both look quite content with themselves to me but I'm not there. |
